That's right, Lilah came into the kitchen, sippy cup in hand, crying that her tongue was stuck. I didn't understand what she was talking about, so I told her to let me see and that was when I noticed the odor. Kind of a fruity, sickeningly sweet, "gotta be toxic because it smells like wrong candy" smell. I started to panic. "What did you eat? Show Mommy what you put in your mouth!" and so she ran to the living room where I found saw the open container of Krazy Glue - THAT'S RIGHT, KRAZY GLUE! - on the floor next to some stuff she was playing with.First I asked her where she had the glue. She said "Mouf. Hands. Wash hands. Dirty." So I told her to open her mouth and stick out her tongue and hold her fingers apart and not to touch anything.
And she did. So please just stop and think about that picture for just a second, because in retrospect, it was very sitcom-ish and cute, because she's small and I really couldn't believe at the time she was doing such a good job following instructions.
I saw on the container to rinse the mouth with water, but she had already had juice trying to wash it out of her mouth. So then I freaked out because she had swallowed it. So then I called poison control. All the while, she was standing there, mouth open, tongue out, fingers spread.
Poison control assured me that as long as nothing was stuck together, she was ok. She might vomit later depending on how much she had, but it is not as dangerous because of toxicity as it is because of kids getting their eyes stuck shut, or their fingers stuck together.
So as my panic over surely allowing my child to ingest poison as I put dishes in the dishwasher subsided, I tried to ask Lilah what happened. Well, earlier she had brought me her Tinker Bell costume wings and wanted to wear them. I told her that I would have to fix them this weekend because right now, they wouldn't stick to her shirt.
So when I asked her why she used to glue, she pointed to her wings in the floor. Where I had found the glue. I said, "What were you going to do?" and she said, "Glue wings. Back." And pointed to her back.
o.O
So how did she know? The only thing I can figure is that yesterday, she was with me as I bought the glue and watched me use the glue to fix a Tinker Bell doll's broken wing, so she figured that would be the best way to fix her wings, too.
And how did she get the Krazy Glue to start with?
She's just taller than I thought. It was on a table and a) Didn't know she could reach it and b) Didn't know she'd want to reach it.
Lesson Learned.

I'm so half it all turned out fine...but I was laughing at the image of your poor Lilac, mouth open, tongue out and fingers spread. :)
yikes!!! i too have learned even the back of my counters aren't safe anymore.... i too have called poison control- I bet those gals have funny stories... glad she is ok...and bright too :-)
Oh, girl! Poisen control has me on file many times! I am so glad she is good and the story is so cute! They get too smart too fast!
I've had moments like that where I'm scared to death and then rolling on the floor laughing as I tell it to Aubrey...after the danger is passed...I'm still learning my lesson every time Price climbs on the table and paints it in oatmeal. Intelligent and independent toddlers are a curse to responsible and loving mothers! :)
I don't know how I missed this post! I'm glad she didn't get anything stuck to the glue. I glued my fingers together once and it HURT!
