Far from perfect -

...but I still think kind of cool, yeah?

Ben's 30th Birthday Cake:

Stage one: Setting the scene. We start with the giant Lego brick on the bottom. They are always yellow for some reason.

Stage Two: Add individual blocks. These are sort of my favorites, I think!

Stage three: Add Lego Man. Poor Lego Ben, he has a gangsta lean!

Stage four: Complete!

This cake would be one hundred million times better if I a) knew how to use fondant at all and had used that instead of all buttercream and b) could have made the Lego Ben a bit more to scale and not falling sideways backwards.

Overall, this cake gets about a 7 out of 10 in my eyes, because it WAS hard. But that's no excuse for some of the bojiggity ways it looks. The most important thing is that it tastes good, so we will enjoy eating it later. :-)

So this is what I've been doing all week and why I haven't been on. I mean, I haven't been making the cake all week, but I've been getting read for the party. And apparently, when you're growing humans, you get tired out a lot faster than say, if you're NOT growing humans, so it's been slow going. Sadly, there is still much to do, so I'm going to run. I've already missed my nephew's 4th birthday party today because of my slow ass baby growing self. I can't let anything else fall by the wayside.

Picture post tomorrow afternoon from all the party fun :-)

Love the MacLego Ben. He is the best. And great use of the word bojiggity.

The cake is at least a 9 out of 10- if not 10 out of 10- the gangsta lean is classic! have you ever tried where you warm icing and pour it...it's thin on the cake, but mostly looks smooth. i don't know 1) how you got all your colors to be so bright- esp the red! and 2) how your cake looks smooth- did you use fondant? I should be embarassed that Chad only got a piece of cake last year at a restaurant, I'm a bad wife!!!
The tiredness won't last forever- I had a good 6 week span when i wasn't completely tired all the time :-)

Callie - I love learning all the awesome words you teach me. :-p

Jennifer - Awww...thanks! It at least tasted 10 out of 10 if it didn't look it to me. LOL. Because I make my own buttercream, I've never tried to melt it. I am always afraid it would just be a nasty mess. I just use the Wilton gel colors from wherever. I did add the red coloring to the leftover yellow I had, so I think that helped it to be deeper colored. And I didn't use any fondant! It didn't look as smooth in person as it does in the pictures, though, trust me. LOL

I think I'm only tired because of how much work we had to do to get the house "company ready." LOL

Sunday - Thank you so much! email me any old time about invites. You can get me at rachael@potentnotables.com!! I'd love to work with you if I can :-D

Rachael it looks yummy. I don't know what to do for Bliss's birthday. My resourceful mother actually made me a birthday cake in the microwave when we were building our house and didn't have an oven for while. I thought of that, but I might go to the bakery next door. I saw something that resembled a birthday cake. It may just have to do.
