Halfway point:

So I hit the 20 week mark today, which means that technically I am halfway through my pregnancy. I have decided to mark my 20th week of pregnancy by wearing maternity pants more often now, whether they are falling off huge or not. I am truly stuck in some pants limbo where my regular pants - even the ones a size larger than my normal size - are just plain uncomfortable if I button them and the maternity pants are like wearing someone else's clothes.

You can see here why there is an "issue"

Unfortunately - for me, anyway - I don't feel like I've developed the cute little baby bump that everyone else gets. No, instead I've developed what looks like a beer belly, and on me, big belly simple equals thick mid section. So I just look FAT to people, instead of looking skinny from the back and only pregnant from the side. :-/ I'm actually fairly disgusted, and the thought that it's just going to get BIGGER freaks me out. But I can't think about that right now. I'll just think about it tomorrow.

SO - In addition to finding out that Miss Teenie Queenie is a girl last week, we went ahead and made a decision on our baby room paint colors and "theme" as it were. We've opted not to do anything too babylike...we really wanted to have a room that would last a nice, long time. Plus, we felt like it would be important to decorate the room in our personal style. She can have more input into her room when she's older. I'm sure in about 13 years, the room will take on the look of an abandoned building, if she's anything like me, anyways.

So - on with the picture show!

The "theme," such as it is, is "Maps/Travel" So we've selected a color palatte reminiscent of some old skool globes:

Three walls will be painted the large swatch of sea glass green, with an accent wall in chocolate brown. We will pull in the other colors in fabrics and accessories.

We purchased this awesome mobile, even though it's HUUUUUUUUUUGE. But huge = awesome, yeah?

So clearly, that won't be attached to the crib, but I thought it might be neat to hang over the changing table area, since that is where I'll appreciate some distraction and I'll be able to direct her attention to all the worlds.

Not a globe, but still in with the maps theme, I bought the lampshade on the right in this photo on clearance:

It's sort of a city map, but the colors are definitely within the palette and I think it will look nice on the dresser or whathaveyou.

Now - these are not definite purchases, as we aren't sure what our finances will allow or if they will be available.

Here is the ever elusive but super duper perfectly awesome Nursery furniture that caused me to have a mental breakdown when I found it was no longer available last weekend:

I *LOVE* it. I like that A) The bed will convert all the way to a queen sized bed and that it's really nice furniture and that she can just have it. And I know some people don't think convertible cribs are the way to go "in case" there is a second child, but I'm pretty sure any accidental second child I had would need a whole bedroom suite, too, so I wouldn't be opposed to spending the money once to get all the nice pieces and then be done.

And I would also REALLY like to have this fold out super chair:

Instead of having a co-sleeper, we can have a chair like this so that if one of us needs to be in the nursery, we can just fold this out (it's really like a twin sized hide-a-bed) and stay in there all night or whatever. It is on the "Probably won't get it but would SO love it" list. I have a rocking chair that I can keep. And I'd like to get a small bookshelf. And that's it. That's a lot of furniture, though, so I think that being that is a-ok. LOL.

Today our diaper bag came in:

It's nice, but I'm not definitely sure that I super love it. I mean, I do like the size - it's not super huge but will carry everything we need; it's the perfect color to match the travel system; it's not too girlie, so Ben can carry it with pride and not feel like he's carrying a purse. But I guess I don't have to love it. I mean, I need to find it useful since I'll carry it for so long and so often, but I just - I don't know.

Anyway - so that's all that. I've felt pretty crappy today. Tonight I decided to just order a mushroom and cheese pizza and kind of chill out a bit on the sofa. I think that Teenie Queenie is having a big growth spurt, because I absolutely feel like someone is blowing up a balloon in my insides. I just feel kind of crappy today, and not even an extra strength Tylenol has been able to get rid of either my sore ab area or my headache. I just want someone to come take care of me, but I have to get the house ready for my parents' visit this weekend. *sigh*

Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow?

Next week expect the name announcement.

Rachael you don't look bad, but I know what you're going thru. Like I said before I hate this stage of pregnancy...you feel more fat than pregnant. But I think you look great. Love the Map/travel idea. I saw a cool idea once where you used a map to mat a photo of your visit to that place. Maybe you could use that, don't know, just an idea. Love the colors too.

I too love the color scheme and the map idea. Actually, Holdyn really loves maps, maybe we should try that for him. We'd have to change the colors a little but it could be good....thinking....Anyway, I had the unfortunate genetics (or whatever)of becoming what I call "pregnant in the butt" which means in addition to getting a fat stomach I also got a huge (bigger than the JLo butt I've already got or ghetto booty as K says) butt and monster thighs to hold the whole thing up. So sorry if there are no tears for your tiny self here, j/k ;)! Seriously, you look cute and I mean it!

I guess I'll spoil the surprise, but I'll make you the diaper bag ensemble that I did for Jeni and Cheyenne. I may possibly have it before the "teenie quennie" gets here, not sure though.Just let me know of any color and fabric preference you may have. I really like making those. So now you can have something for you, that doesn't exactly look like a diaper bag. I love having options for my accessories, so true for diaper bags too.

Sara - YAY! Those diaper bags you make are SO PRETTY! Also a good size, not honking huge but big enough to get everything you need in there :-) And...if you want to use the nursery color pallatte, that's fine! It's all colors I gravitate towards anyway. :-) Thanks so much, and thanks for the encouragement about my "Beer belly" too. I love the idea of matting a photo in a map of where the picture was taken. If we do end up using some of our own travel photos in her room, I think I'd like to do that!

Jennie - I've still got plenty of time to get the junk in the trunk. I'm apparently supposed to gain a 1/2 a pound a week from here until like, October and then start up with the pound a week. Fun fun! I was like, "But the baby will weigh 20 pounds if I do that!" And you should definitely think about doing a map room for Holdyn. You could always use the brighter colors off the more modern globe to make it a little more exciting for a 7-year-old boy :-D Maybe use that bright water blue for the curtains :-D Fun!

what a perfect nursery "theme"- I love the mobile! love the diaper bag! and now being in the "in between" stage at the other end of pregnancy I wish I would've bought some in between sized pants...I have nothing to wear to work next week...potterybarn kids has a chair like the one you like- the twin sleeper...have you seen the european veggie bins for toys on land of nod? I love those...anyway- you look great, at 20 weeks I think I looked like a hoss!

Jeni - You know I'm just biding my time until I have some sort of tummy explosion! I'm eaaaaaasing into maternity wear, but most of it is still too big. I'm sure the shower and all surrounding it will be beautiful!

Jennifer - I only like more Land of Nod chair more because it offers more colors...but they're both $1000.00, and I just don't know if that's in the nursery budget! (Even though we could use it for YEARS)
