Big, Fat, yeast roll

We have thrush.

Well, more specifically, I have thrush. Lilah doesn't seem to have any of the symptoms. No white patches in her mouth. No diaper rash. She's a little fussy, but nothing major.

Me - well, I didn't fare so well. I couldn't figure out why it felt like Lilah had shards of glass in her mouth every time I nursed her. Plus, she was popping off constantly and my poor nipple tips were red, red, red. Now, I will say that I have it very mildly, but mild thrush is still a pain in the ass that warrants all the pain in the ass thrush-eradication techniques. If you didn't know better, you'd think I was some sort of exhibitionist, walking around for hours at a time with my boobs hanging out of my top. Then there is the cream. Nystatin. Which I can't figure out what to do with...it says on the package in huge letters that it's for external use only. But that means I have to wipe it off before Lilah nurses. Then put it back on? But I'm only suppoed to apply it twice a day...then some poeple say DON'T wipe it off before she nurses, because she needs to be treated for thrush even though she's asymptomatic. I just wants to make sure I don't do anything to make her SICK, but other than that, wipe it off, don't wipe it off WHATEVER!

Anyway, so that's what I've been doing this week. Walking around with my boobs hanging out and applying cream to them. And washing all my clothes daily. Woo.

Suck! I never had the privilege of getting thrush but I did have mastitis 2 or 3 times, talk about pain! Be thankful Lilah doesn't have it but I would probably leave the cream on when I nursed her. Or, call the Dr's office and see what the nurse says.
Ahhh, the joys of motherhood!

Ohhhh - I remember that! OUCH!

In the immortal words of the Divine Miss Bette Midler - "...put those nipples to the wind and be free!!!"

Just cover up if the UPS man knocks on your door!

We had it the other way around... Izzy had it in her mouth but thankfully I never seemed to 'contract' it. I did have to treat myself, I just pumped with the cream on and applied it twice a day but some if it had to have gotten in the milk. Good luck!

I never had thrush with Olivia, but I have to say that the dilemma with the cream would really puzzle me, too. Maybe Tracy's on to something. Good luck!

I'm so SORRY. You're boobs go thru enough when nursing...why all the extra hassle?! I read somewhere once that you should "air-out" your boobs daily when you are nursing to prevent the yeasties from thriving. The diflucan is a good idea too.
I've never gone thru that and don't want to. Good luck getting rid of it.
