Party line

I get a lot of wrong number calls.

A LOT.

Ben always said it was because I had three 5's in my number in a row, so it would be easy for someone to accidentally hit an extra 5, still complete the number they were calling and never know that they called the wrong number.

Fair enough. I've called my fair share of wrong numbers.

I think what kills me is how frequently people will ACCIDENTALLY CALL ME AGAIN.

More than once.

And sometimes, even if I let it go to voicemail, they aren't the least bit discouraged that they've gotten a wrong connection. Nope. They'll just leave me a message anyway.

Like this one lady last year who, in spite of my message clearly stating from the get-go that "This is Rachael," proceeded to leave a message for Dr. Someandsuch and could he please call her back as soon as possible?

Well, he might could if you had actually dialed the right number and left a voicemail on his line.

But lately I've gotten the craziest text messages. Like, some of them are obvious young peoples, an the other day there was one for someone's boss in broken English stating that he wouldn't be at work. Given the high number of Mexican immigrants in our area, I took a stab at trying to help the guy out at not getting fired by responding with a "freetranslation.com" Spanish version of "you have the wrong number."

Today I got repeat texts from a number and decided, when it seemed maybe someone had a job in jeopardy, to let them know they had the wrong number. And you know what I got?

Well, the attitude is so big you can see for yourself.

Eisha is lucky I didn't take the time to explain to her exactly why her spelling of "jackass" causes me concern.

I have unlimited texting, so the random texts don't bother me from a monetary standpoint, and actually it's kind of fun to read something that wasn't meant for you. It's like listening in on those old party lines and knowing the business of everyone on your block. Instead of talking about it at the grocery store, though, I post it on a blog.

Love it! People are so dense sometimes. Our number in Ttown was one number off from Blockbuster and we used to get calls all the time in the middle of the night asking if we were still open. I'd say this isn't blockbuster and sometimes I'd get...do you know if they are still open? Really people?!

LOL! My phone gets called all the time by wrong numbers. And it is either a girl from "last night" or and old person who can't hardly hear me tell them they have the wrong number. One girl started chewing me out and asking me why I had some guys phone. The older people just start talking and I have to interrupt them to tell them they don't know me.
