Lilah and I are still holding on to a touch of the coughing crud, but I think with daily doses of allergy medication, we are on the up and up.
Which is good, because I don't like being under house arrest.
After spending the day indoors all day Friday, Lilah was doing a little better. She ended up not running a fever after lunch time on Friday, so Saturday morning, I figured we could go do something that put us out of the house as long as it did not also put us in close contact with other humans.
So I thought we should go pick strawberries.
I figured the fresh air, sunshine, and vitamin C straight off the vine would do us some good.
I located a little patch just north of us and we set off on our adventure.
For $8.00, you got a little plastic bucket and the run of the fields, which thanks to a mild winter was already full to overflowing with berries. I seriously couldn't believe that everywhere you looked, there were big, bright red, beautiful berries staring at you.
Yes, I did put her in a strawberry outfit to pick strawberries. I'm just so glad that it still fits - even as a top - two years after I made it, that I couldn't help but be thematic.
Lilah seemed to enjoy inspecting more than picking; she would squeeze the berry too hard and crush it as she picked, and after a few tries she decided to direct which berries I should pick rather than pick them herself.
She just couldn't help herself. They were "God made dirt, and dirt don't hurt" pretty.
This is my favorite picture of the bunch. She was having a very personal chat with that berry.
We were instructed by the field owner to make sure we didn't just fill the bucket to the top, that we filled it as full as we could.
So we picked and picked and picked until it got too heavy for Lilah to carry.
And I didn't have to worry about keeping her out too long or wearing her out, because she let me know when she was finished.
As you can see from the pictures, there were a few people there, but we had a whole couple of rows to ourselves, so I didn't have to worry about her little germs getting on anyone else. Plus: It was so much fun. I want to go back in a couple of weeks. Because I found something to do with all those strawberries.
That'll be a BERRY interesting post.
;-)
