Cake That!

So I've been on quite a cake baking/decorating roll for work lately.

It started with a birthday cake for my manager, who loves penguins.

I only made it big enough for our department, really, but a few people shared the yum and I had a good time being creative in cake again.

The next one was last week, where I volunteered to make a birthday cake for the gluten/dairy/nut-free birthday girl and all our coworkers who experience sensitivities to such things.

Finally, today, I made a baby shower cake for a guy who works in facilities and his wife, who were actually in the hospital because she had been admitted yesterday. We decided it was too late to cancel the shower, so we just had it anyway.

This was the e-vite; I heard later the baby's nursery is monkeys:

And here is the cake I made to try and match:

His ears and arms are iced Townhouse crackers, because I knew cake wouldn't stand up to the trip and they were perfectly shaped and sized.

It was my one stroke of genius for the day!

The shower was really nice and I took a lot of pics for the couple to see later. As I was leaving work, baby was definitely on the way, so I hope they enjoyed that little monkey cake in celebration the next day!

We are already planning another shower for May for another worker and his wife who are having a little boy. He said today she vetoed his idea for a sports-themed nursery, so we are going to go with a baseball theme for the shower.

We jokingly dubbed it his "You got a home-run" shower.

Teehee.

I've missed all the cakey fun. An it's nice to just have it open and casual and low pressure.

So much more fun!
