Backtracking: Part I

Hey - remember how it looked a lot like I didn't do anything for the second half of May?

Lies.

Dirty, filthy, lies.

We did all kinds of stuff.

For example: Mother's Day weekend there was Artisphere

I LOVE Artisphere.  It's one of the great yearly street festivals that we get to enjoy here in Greenville.  They bring in artists from all over the country to showcase and sell their art, but they also have very cool demonstrations of art - such as pottery or glass blowing -  a little live performance art and even some food art.

I like to go on Friday evenings since it is usually cooler and less crowded than the Saturday or Sunday of the festival.

This year, the thing that attracted my attention most was the stand set up in the center of the festival where this group was giving away free letterpressed items made from blocks they had carved themselves and pressed on a press they built themselves.

"Chewbaca do not care."

Inking the roller

And onto the block

I chose a print of Greenville's iconic Liberty Bridge.

He let me run the press to make my own print.

I met the Morgans there, and Easy E was learning all about the art of letterpress.

I saw lots of beautiful things, but the artists - understandably - frown on having a lot of photographs taken.  One girl in particular had THE cutest handbags made from upholstery fabrics and then another girl had ALL the jewelry I wanted.  I mean, every piece was something I'd like to wear.  She had a variety of shapes and colors and textures, ranging from enamel and silver and brass...and it was all pretty affordable, if you had extra spending money.

Then of course there were the beautiful handmade wood furniture pieces, the gorgeous pottery, the amazing mixed media art pieces, the  jewelry made with precious metals...Artisphere is something that makes you want to have free wallspace, an open floor plan and a larger jewelry box!

Saturday, my mom came up to celebrate Mother's Day and on Sunday we took our obligatory "Three Generations" photo for the year.

You can tell Lilah had worn herself out playing with Gramma!

It was quite a nice weekend and wonderfully relaxed (as I remember).

You had me at "handbags made from upholstery fabric..." Sounds like my kind of place! One day I really will buy a Glenda Gies bag!
