Which Came First?

With July nipping at our heels already, I'm torn between my catch-up on "What I did in May before it was Summer, but now Summer is already half over, so...Wait, where was I?" posts and giving you new stuff.

I need an extra 24 hours in the day just to document what I do on a regular basis.

Which sounds very exciting, but...wait.  I'm just going to let you think it's very exciting.

:-)

Ok.

I think I will post something new this time to balance out my old and new news.

So I have been hard at work getting things into my Etsy shop lately, but the are of neither the pin nor ink variety, so I haven't written about them on the craft blog.  Which conflicts me, but whatever.  Hear it here first.

So a few years ago I fell in love with this idea of creating cake plates/appetizer servers/dessert stands from one-off funky china plates.  I played around with the idea on a couple of pieces, but it wasn't until I stumbled across a set of vintage Spode Rosebud Chintz that I really felt like I had found something worth working with.

I wound up with two cake plates, one smaller cake plate, and a tiered serving piece.

Then I fell upon some really awesome vintage Mikasa plates, and things really started to get busy in ye olde crafty area.

The most recently listed stand is one I actually put together awhile back.  I just LOVE this stand featuring the Mikasa pattern "Gigi."  It prominently features my new color inspiration:  Turquoise and Avocado.

The best thing about getting all these dessert stands ready to list is that I have to bake all these fun little desserts and appetizers so the photos are more fascinating.  Today I thought some no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies would be perfect for the era of the plate.  A little googling taught me that the no-bake variety of cookies was born out of depression-era shortages of traditional cookie ingredients, but I like them for the simple fact that one eye of the stove doesn't make your house as blazing hot in June like heating up your whole oven does.

If you have any more suggestions for desserts/appetizers that would fit a certain decade, please let me know.  I'm running out of ideas.  Fast.  And my co-workers will love that I'm craft-whoring myself since it means they get to eat what remains of the "model foods." :-)

There are a couple other stands currently listed, but I have the supplies to make several over the next few weeks that will transcend many decades of design, and I figure at some point, there just might be someone who is looking for just what I have to sell them.

And if not, then my friends are getting funky cake plates with treats for Christmas this year.

But you didn't hear that from me.

My mom has made chocolate no-bake cookies all my life and I *love* them. Somehow, though, mine never taste like hers.

I am addicted to Etsy, so I will definitely check out your shop!
