Backtracking Part III: Greek Festival

May is a month of festivals in Greenville.  Something fantastic is happening every weekend, and when you are blessed by mild temperatures, it makes the whole month simply magical.  You are never bored. Greenville isn't a huge city, but it has its fair share of activities, and I really love it here.  I would be hard-pressed to live somewhere that didn't have such a full calendar of yearly events, and the fact that they aren't one-off, "we did it this year but we'll never do it again"-type events allows you to really build traditions.

It is really a blessing to live here, and something I make an effort to be grateful for every day.

The second biggest May festival around here is The Greek Festival.

It is the annual fund and awareness-raiser for St. George's, and while I know it aims to share Greek culture and faith with the community, for me it is all about the food.

Lilah and I found a nice, shady spot to eat our lunches.

Greek pizza for the little one -

Beef tenderloin souvlaki gyro for me.

I dream of this gyro all year.

All.  Year.

Last year, they accidentally gave me regular lamb gyro, so I haven't had one of these in two years.

It was quite possibly the most delicious thing I'd ever eaten.

Then there are the desserts.  Like the loukoumades.

Tiny, little, delicious fried doughnuts, covered in honey.

I love those little doughnuts.

Lilah does love the music and the dancing.

So much fun!  If you have local festivals, please support them.  If you don't - why not look into starting an event that can become a tradition in your community?

It's one of those things that brings people together in a way that is old fashioned and sincere...like a community potluck.  Start small and it will grow on it's own.  But it's so worth it.

We, the attendants, thank you in advance!
