Something Fishy

Aside from the moment of her birth, Lilah has never spent any measurable amount of time submerged in water. We have a little mesh chair that she sits in when taking her baths, and we just pour water over her as needed. Up until now, that's been the easiest thing to do. But lately she has started to get all "I want to sit straight up and not recline in my seat" on us, and that makes it more difficult since the chair tends to tip forward when she does, and I have had many flashes of the horror that would be her face-planting it into the side of the tub. But we have been reluctant to run the tub and let her sit in there, splashing away in the water because of the very sad crying faces she made at Jack's birthday party when Ben held her down and let her put her feet in the baby pools. We had decided that she didn't care one bit for standing water and that would be that. Maybe she'd just grow up taking showers as a tiny person, who knew? But then we got the opportunity to go swimming this week and so I just decided if worse came to worst, then at least we could sit on the side and make vitamin D together.

Boy was I wrong to worry! She ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. She splashed. She kicked. She made like a duck in her little baby boat and paddled herself in circles. It was HYSTERICAL how happy she was! Sadly, being the crap Mommy that I am, I had forgotten the camera at home. (In my defense, I had taken the battery out to charge it and forgot it because we were running late and I didn't walk past it in the mad dash out the door.) Luckily, Miss Beth - our hostess at the pool along with her sweet girls - had her husband bring out her camera to take a few snaps of Lilah's inaugural splash.

Kicking. Kicking. Kicking.
(note - I have not bought a new bathing suit in 5 years - except my maternity suit - hence the inappropriate post-baby bathing suit. Thank god we were the only people at the pool!)

Big old grin indicates the pool <3!

On her own in her little baby boat! She tried to gnaw her way to the water below.

Here I am, just so you don't go thinking I abandoned her in a floaty in the pool all alone.

I think that we'll be able to start sitting her in the tub like a big girl now.

Love those! It's great you got her in the big pool so early. While L'il Vinegar loves the water now, at 18 months - 2 years, it was pretty ugly. One time she stood on the side of the pool howling at me 'No water, mommy, no water!' - which to an ex- competitive swimmer, really sucks hearing your kid hate pools!

And you look great - nine years post partum and I won't be seen in public in a two piece!!!

She looks so cute in her swimsuit! You look good, too! I'm glad she likes the water, it makes life so much easier, especially in the summer. I love that we can just go to the pool and everyone is happy!
